Susan Markham
Sue
Markham was appointed music director at Shepherd of the Valley
in January 2007 after serving in a similar capacity at
Whitinsville United Methodist Church in Whitinsville,
Massachusetts. Sue tells us she began asking for a piano when
she was three and finally got one at the age of six. After
five years of lessons, she began organ lessons and became a
church organist at the age of 11. Her first position was at
the former Tabernacle Methodist Church on Plainfield Street in
Olneyville Square. The building is still there but it is now
an office building. She continued to play in area churches
throughout her junior and senior high school years. After
graduating from Cranston East, she attended Julius Hartt
College of Music at the University of Hartford where she
majored in Church Music and minored in Piano and Voice.
Sue’s
family consists of her husband, Steve, her three children,
Helen, Linda and Keri, and ten grandchildren! Mini dachshunds,
a golden retriever and two cats complete the family!
